We got our first cutting of alfalfa for the year. It ended up being a whole lot better quality than last year’s, which we’re happy about. Best of all, its goat approved, so I’d have to say it’s a huge success compared to last year… Continue reading

We had a lot of stuff to get done in the garden so we made a day of it. Although it was a long hot day, we still had fun and plenty to giggle about… Continue reading
It was just one of those days, I don’t even know how to describe it, other than it definitely was NOT Eggstraordinary, it wasn’t eggcellent or eggceptional either. I guess I’d say it was pretty eggy and plenty messy…

Oh, I’ve wanted a nice clothesline for so long and now I’ve finally got one! Between the electric rates here and our inefficient house, we’re stuck with ridiculously high electric bills. We’ve researched ways to make our house more efficient but unfortunately with the type of house we own there’s not a lot we can do that wouldn’t cost a fortune. So instead we’ve been taking baby steps to get away from depending on the grid so much. Hopefully having this clothesline will help reduce our energy costs. Continue reading

I love spring time and everything it brings except storms! Lately we’ve had several warnings but luckily the storms missed us. In this video we’re going to show you how we prepare the garden when storms threaten.
This has been shared on the Homesteader Blog Hop.
Oh, I’m so excited! The seeds I ordered a week ago arrived in the mail the other day. The green house finally got in the 6 packs of tomatoes and green peppers that I’ve been waiting for, so I picked them up. I’ve got the majority of the other seeds I’m wanting to plant rounded up, so now all that’s left to do is plant. Once that’s done, I’ll officially have my garden in. Sounds simple, right? Well…not exactly, because there’s still plenty of back aching planting to be done. But at least it’s all gathered up so there’s no more excuses to not get it planted.

Want to know more about how we got here and why we started homesteading? Curious why I started a blog and how I came up with my blog name? Wondering why I decided to start a YouTube channel?

In my last blog post, I told you about our new Humble Little Homestead You Tube channel where we will be sharing the latest happenings and projects going on around here. As I’ve been working on that, I got to thinking about exactly what all I wanted to share on that channel. I intend on it being mostly homesteading related and plan to cover everything from gardening tips and updates to animal care and processing, plus everything in between, in addition to showing our progress on fixing up the place.
As I was making videos I realized some of our videos were starting to be more about the kids doing every day projects and having fun which kind of ventured away from my intended topic. So we’ve decided to make another You Tube channel called Humble Little Homestead for Kids! Continue reading
As you’ve probably noticed, things have been a little quite around here lately. It hasn’t been intentional, it’s just that things have been so busy that I haven’t had enough time to post. I take pictures and jot down notes of all the latest happenings with intentions of getting them posted then… life happens, so I take more pictures and jot down notes, and pretty soon I have a whole pile of notes with pages being added every day because life keeps going no matter if I’m caught up or not.
So I’ve decided to start making videos of the latest happenings around here because I’ve found it to be a little easier to capture it all and get it posted in a timelier manner. I still plan on posting articles on here too, in fact I have quite a few planned out and hope to get them done soon.
