It’s a cool, quiet peaceful day on the homestead… a perfect day to get some wall covering up. Plus we try out Dylan’s new hammock and give an update on our baby turkeys.
Oh my gosh! All the eggs but one hatched!! We have an incubator FULL of baby turkeys, 7 of them to be exact. Did our turkey hen accept them or are we going to have to raise them? You’ll have to watch…
The mulberries are starting to ripen! We decided to go check them out, and of course, the goats joined us. It was a perfectly relaxing and fun way to spend this cool and beautiful summer morning.
We had a request for an animal update, so Miley is taking you with her as she does the chores so you can see how they are doing. There’s cuteness, silliness, frustration, and even a surprise! I’d tell ya all about it…but it’s more interesting if you watch….
It’s been a while since we’ve made a video so we thought it would be fun to do a video on what our life is like now that I’m working full time. It’s been quite an adjustment for all of us, but so far we’ve fallen into a good routine. This is a typical week day. Weekends are a little different because we focus more on projects and maintenance on the homestead.
With our new routine we didn’t have the time to collect leaves in the fall, like we have in the past. So I was happy to fine a good deal on a large round bale of straw to mulch the garden with. I don’t know who was more excited… me finally getting the garden mostly mulched… or the kids getting to destroy the bale… or the chickens getting to scratch around in it. One they for sure, a HAY day was had by all!
There’s lots of exciting stuff going on around our place! Our Nubian goat babies are here now and we have 3 week old Holland Lops running around. It might still be winter but we feel like spring is here with all these babies around here.
It’s been a while since we’ve made a video. We want you to know we aren’t quitting homesteading or youtube, We’ve just had some changes in our life that we’re having to adjust to, so we’ll have fewer videos for a while. Hope you’ll stick with us until we’re able to have a more consistent schedule again.
We’ve had our first hard freeze so our gardening season has come to an end, but for the chickens, the work is just beginning!
We tried an experiment to see how well sweet potatoes grow in containers. Today we harvested them. Did we get a lot? Do we feel it worked good? Would we plant them in containers again? Well, you’ll just have to watch…
