The first weekend in July is always a busy one for us. Between celebrating Miley’s birthday and celebrating the 4th, it’s always a fun time for all of us to get together. Swimming, wiener roasts, birthday cake, and the largest water balloon fight ever… it’s nothing fancy, just good old fashioned fun!
Swimming, grilling, goodies from the garden and a jar filled with fireflies… all the simple joys of life….
The other day, Miley and I were looking through old pictures and we came upon this picture…
We both started giggling and Miley looked at me and said, “Mmmoooommmm….” then burst out into full blown laughter. Every time we run onto this picture, it makes us giggle…

This year we’ve been having good luck growing some vegetables that we’ve normally had trouble growing in the past. The first one is broccoli…
I have to laugh because in past years our broccoli never looked that good, in fact it didn’t really resemble anything like this at all. When Brooke saw that, she said, “Wow, I can’t believe that came from the garden. It looks like what you’d find in the store. It’s awesome!”

We got our first cutting of alfalfa for the year. It ended up being a whole lot better quality than last year’s, which we’re happy about. Best of all, its goat approved, so I’d have to say it’s a huge success compared to last year… Continue reading

One day I went out to the garden and noticed nasty looking blobs of slime that appeared to be taking over the garden. I’ve never seen anything like it before and I’ll admit I was a little freaked out over it. I did a little research and found out that it’s a mold/fungus called dog vomit slime mold. Just the name alone sounds pretty disgusting and like something you should be pretty alarmed about. Luckily it’s harmless, to people and pets and actually beneficial to plants because it breaks down organic matter which adds nutrients to the soil. Continue reading
It was just one of those days, I don’t even know how to describe it, other than it definitely was NOT Eggstraordinary, it wasn’t eggcellent or eggceptional either. I guess I’d say it was pretty eggy and plenty messy…
I’ve wanted to grow some herbs and try drying them this year. I bought some and planned on making a little herb garden but never got around to getting it done. Then I went on a short vacation before I got them planted, and for some reason they started dying. So instead of planting them in their own little garden, I decided to do some companion planting and put them in with vegetables that they grow well with.
