The day was so beautiful! We had errands to run in town but we put them aside because we couldn’t pass up spending such a lovely afternoon in the garden. We’re attempting to use the Ruth Stout method of gardening, so right now is the best time to get mulch added. That way there is time for it to break down before planting time.

And Then I Found Five Dollars
It was a day of chores, doctoring the turkey, snapping beans and a couple of stories… then we found five dollars.
Plantin’ Strawberries and Pickin’ Apples
It was a very lovely warm day so we got lots done outside! We transplanted some strawberries, did a little clean up by burning some weeds and picked apples. Now there’s lots more work ahead as we decide what we want to make with all those apples.
Super Simple Way To Make Tomato Sauce
This is a simple way I’ve found to make tomato sauce. You can check out my post, Easy Way to Make Tomato Sauce for more info.
Let’s Pick A Snack!
Peppers, peppers and more peppers… got them all chopped and in the freezer. With supper running late, good thing there are apples on the tree so we could pick a snack.
Picking Peppers in the Dark!
The morning started out cold so we warmed the house by starting a fire in the fireplace. Spent the afternoon canning beans, then remembered after supper that there might possibly be a frost that night. Even though they probably would have been fine, we decided to go ahead and pick all the peppers when we did our evening chores.
Turkeys, where did you go?
We got the beans picked and snapped, now we just need to find time to can them.
A lot of times I don’t follow recipes and will just randomly make something according to what we have on hand. Sometimes it turns out great, other times not. Tonight’s supper was one of those experiments.
At chore time we found the turkeys missing so we had to find them and put them back in the coop. Always something around here….
We Switched Things Up a Bit
One day over the weekend the kids were gone and it was just my husband and I home. So we had us a little date scooping poop, cleaning things up and doing some much needed fixing up to a few things. Now that everything is all switched up we have a whole new morning chore routine.
We also picked beans and the kids have been keeping busy with a few projects they came up with on their own. Who needs toys when you have sticks, paint, string and a bog box to play with?
Big Weeds? Just Sawzall ‘Em Down!

I had some mega sized weeds attempting to take over the garden. They had gotten so big that my garden clippers couldn’t even begin to touch them. I decided to break out the ole sawzall and see if it would work to cut them down. It did… and not only did it work great, but it was also fun to finally get rid of those weeds. Well, I guess it was fun until I found the garden was crawling with caterpillars.
The kids got a mum planted and we got our dried herbs packed into jars.
Drying Herbs and Bad, Bad Guineas

Oh those guineas…. they’re in so much trouble! Between picking on Neville and trampling my beans down, they’re on my bad list for sure.
We’re drying herbs from the garden for the first time. It’s so easy and with the cost of buying them, I don’t know why we didn’t try it sooner.
