It was a busy day with all the usual chores and garden work. The fermented pickles were ready so I got those packed into new jars and ready for the fridge.
Once all the work was done we made time for a little play and fun too.

Meet our newest addition to the homestead… a Mini Rex rabbit. She’s so cute! We’re having a hard time coming up with a name that fits her. Do you have any suggestions?
Aside from getting the new rabbit, we got some tomatoes canned and the last of our fall green beans planted.
We got our rabbit run built… now we’re ready for a rabbit. We let our turkeys out in the run for a while and boy did that stir up some drama with the chickens.
New projects, chicken drama… there’s never a dull moment on the homestead.
Picked our first large crop of tomatoes of tomatoes, so we’ll soon be canning tomatoes. We also got part of our fall crop of green beans planted.
We now have a couple of pet caterpillars. Creepy or cute? I guess it just depends on whose point of view you’re looking at it from. 😉
Around here, most days start out with the usual morning chores and end with the usual evening chores. What goes on between those times varies greatly from day to day. Here’s a little glimpse into what one day here was like.
Finally had time to make up some fermented pickles. I just wish I could have had a chance to pick the cucumbers a little sooner because they were a little over ripe.
For more info on fermenting and a printable recipe check out my blog post, Fermented Pickles.
Fair time! It’s one of our favorite parts of the summer. Join us on a little tour and see some of the highlights of the week. It was another successful fair. We learned a lot and best of all lots of good memories were made.
Just a little garden update as I check it out after getting home from the fair…
Fair time is an exciting but busy time around our house. We have a lot of stuff to do like last minute procrastinated projects to finish up, animal prep, project judging and lots more. Unfortunately, Miley got sick in the middle of all the preparation so this year she wasn’t quite as enthusiastic as she normally is just because she wasn’t feeling all that great. Here’s a little peek into what our fair prep was like….
Everyone has those days… you know, the ones where as soon as you wake up nothing goes right. I think animals can even sometimes have those days. In fact, one day Neville was having a horrible start to his day and boy, did he have a lot to say about it…
